I’m sensing a theme here. It doesn’t matter how many food truck festivals I attend or how many times I pass by the falafel trucks outside of work; I will inevitably gravitate toward the sweet stuff. Before I go any further I should worn you now that the pictures you’re about to see are rather graphic. X-rated stuff ladies and gentlemen. This is smutty food porn for everyone to enjoy. Get ready, this is going to be a mouthwatering and tantalizing ride.
This food truck has been on my radar since I arrived in the Big Apple. They have cookies, ice cream and my favorite: ICE CREAM COOKIE SANDWICHES. Pick your cookie and ice cream flavors and they put it together for you. Any pairing you can think of. Their cookie menu includes flavors like vegan carrot cake, peanut butter Captain Crunch and smore’s. Their ice cream flavors are even more unique with refreshing sorbets such as strawberry mojito and lychee martini or whacky flavors like fried chicken and waffles, cuban cigar, olive oil and rosemary, beer and pretzel, peking duck and the list goes on.
After a scorching hot day and a long walk through Central Park I took a friend to the American Museum of Natural History where one can normally find a CoolHaus truck. I ordered a refreshing gingersnap cookie with a whopping scoop of mango saffron sorbet. It hit all the right spots.
I’ve eaten a lot of great food. I always boast how great food can be but I was not fully prepared for how good this next dessert was. Wafels & Dinges has savory wafels, ice cream and dessert wafels. Shockingly, I chose a dessert wafel. I’m saying wafel because that’s what they are but just for clarification yes, these are “waffles”.
How it works: you get a wafel type and one free dinge which are just additional toppings. Toppings include but are not limited to nutella, grade A maple syrup, Belgium chocolate and more.
I ordered de Bom, which is a wafel over powdered sugar, topped with a scoop of their ice cream and decked in drizzled chocolate over the top. For my free dinge I added spekuloos, or “speculoos”, which looks like peanut butter but is ten times better. Think of a spiced shortbread biscuit with the consistency of peanut butter but then heat it up and drizzle that over a waffle and that’s what I had. See for yourself.
Normally, these wafels are shared between two but I ate this all by myself. I’m not even going to pretend like I’m ashamed. I’d do it again. I’d do it every day if I could.
