Ballin’

Two days ago, had any friend of mine asked me, “Hey Amelia, wanna get some meatballs?” I wouldn’t have been all that enthused. However, if they asked me that same question today I would be down in an instance.

Friday was the last day that one of my roommates would be living with us and we wanted to have a dinner together, just us three. I suggested we go to a place I’ve passed by on Ninth Avenue with a fellow intern who swore by their food. It happened to be The Meatball Shop which has four locations, all in the state of New York. The place is a restaurant/bar that has meatballs for all. Not only do they have all the meat types but they also have veggie balls — so if you have those annoying vegetarian friends, they can still come along and enjoy.

There are many ways to order your meatballs but I did it the “Naked” way. The dish consists of your choice of four meatballs and sauces with a side of focaccia bread and parmesan cheese.  I paired chicken meatballs with pesto and classic tomato sauce.

One thing is for certain at The Meatball Shop, all their food shaped like balls taste good. The ice cream sandwiches rival that of CoolHaus and any other ice cream sandwiches in the city. The cookies are soft and the ice cream is creamy but light. Perfect cure to last week’s heatwave. I ordered a chocolate chip cookie with brown sugar ice cream sandwich. It was marvelous.

After we ate, we crossed the street and walked down to Tenth Avenue and waltzed through the High Line until we reached home base. All in all it was a good night with good friends just as every meal should be enjoyed.
